Effectively Managing Stress
When clients come to my office I will frequently draw what looks like a puzzle on a piece of paper. If they are dealing with a stress related issue I might ask them to draw the different parts of the puzzle that make up the components of the stress which they feel. Some pieces of the puzzle might be related to finances, conflicts with their spouse or children, health related concerns, unrealistic expectations that they have for themselves or even unrealistic expectations they have of others. I encourage them to draw the pieces of the puzzle which are relevant for them and to also draw the size of the pieces which make up the components of their stress. During the course of treatment the client will systematic work on each part of the puzzle to more effectively address each piece which is causing them stress.
