Sometimes we lose touch with that which is important to us. We get caught up in "doing" so many things, and life can become like a whirlwind, or maybe a river that just sweeps us away. I was listening to a lecture today by Dr. Russ Harris. He was talking about the importance of values, and I was thinking that it might be valuable to reassess our values from time to time. It is possible that the things that are important to us may change over time. It is likely a good idea to consciously be aware of these changes and become more mindful of where we want to put our energy and how we want to relate to those around us and our world. It is our values that determine our behavior and how we choose to spend our time. For me, valuing compassion, kindness, respect, honesty, integrity, and intimacy are at the top of the list. Well lets add forgiveness to this list for the times when my behavior isn't consistent with the other values I just stated. I suspect that keeping are values clear in our mind each day will help direct our behavior so that it is consistent with what is important to us.
