I was listening again to Russell Brand this evening. He made a YouTube post entitled, "The REAL Reason Edward Snowden Hasn't Been Pardoned", In his post he questioned issues related to governmental corruption both in the United States and England. He asked questions related to the real reason Edward Snowden was charged with three felonies. Was he a hero or a criminal? Is he living in exile because he pointed out governmental corruption, or is he a traitor who deserves to be punished? I personally don't know enough about the situation, but I am slowly learning to be less naive, and often curious about, "The Real Truth". Too often we do not know what is really going on, and we are surrounded by, "Smoke and Mirrors". If we are human we will make mistakes. Like the Lords Prayer request, "Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil", I remember reading a statement by M. Scott Peck, in his classic book, "The Road Less Traveled", where he makes the statement that went something like, "Making a mistake, or some wrong doing is not evil. We are all tempted to do things that we know are wrong at times, it is human. When we are untruthful regarding our wrongdoing, however, we are creating an act that is evil according to the author. When someone asks us if we have told the truth, and we are then dishonest, we are creating a much more serious crime. Much like "Gaslighting", this act challenges the other's perception, and ultimately makes them feel crazy. It is human to make mistakes, to give in to our impulse to, have more, to feel more, to enjoy more, and to experience more, or what ever the, "More" may be. Not only will we all fall into temptation and make mistakes, but we are all likely to be guilty of covering them up at some point in time. Unfortunately there is a price that we pay, and that others pay for the darkness of our cover up. Regarding government, Russell makes the point that it doesn't matter who is president, it won't change the system that is corrupt, that functions to make people money. I suspect that many systems function primarily to line peoples pockets, this is not just an issue of state, city, or federal corruption. It occurs in school districts, hospitals, and any system that involves human imperfection and fallibility. Whether it is in our government, or our personal lives, sometimes it would be really nice to know, "The Real Truth". Unfortunately too many of us don't value honesty and integrity. For those of us who do, well we will still mess up! We still cover up! We still hurt others, and we will still hurt ourselves! Even though we may not realize it.
