Very simply, at least from my perspective, therapy is about helping a client solve-problems effectively. There is a concern or an issue that is presented to the therapist and the course of treatment is designed to help the client resolve this concern so that it no longer interferes with their life or taxes their energy. The therapist works with the client as a consultant to develop a course of treatment or treatment plan. Goals are identified to address the issue and the client will make their best effort to achieve these goals prior to the next session. If the client does not or was unable to complete the goal, the therapist will help them more clearly understand the resistance that occurs within them so they can be better able to move forward to resolve their concern. To a large degree the ability of the therapist to be accepting and caring regarding the client is the primary ingredient in helping them feel safe so they can explore their emotions as they move forward on their path to having a better future.
Sometimes we know what to do but something inside stops from being successful.
